Mixed Media and Multi-Media Artist, Filmmaker and Musician For more than 50 years, Robert Bornn has created multimedia and mixed media art. He has produced a wide variety of sculpture, large installations, environments, and photographic work. Robert's assemblages utilize rock, metal, ferro-cement, fiber, water, light, and other elements. Bringing together "personalities" of textures, forms, and colors results in an ensemble in which each part has a voice contributing to a greater expression. Robert's assemblages are unique in that they are not primarily created through the reduction of materials. Instead, he mostly uses an additive process to create large expressions from minimal forms. He assembles rock, metal, fiber, water, light, and other elements. Bringing together "personalities" of textures, forms and colors results in a "sculpture community" in which each part has a voice contributing to a greater single voice. Robert identifies and gathers materials with character and sculpts them with boldness, daring, and respect for nature. As he has said, "My artistic strategy is to combine 'seeking and gathering' with flights of the spirit and fancy." He terms this approach "Gestalt sculpture." Robert's glass art miniatures in borosilicate are at his InsculptaGlass shop on Etsy and were recently at the Heron's Nest Gallery (closed 2019) and Vashon Center for the Arts (2019) on Vashon Island. When flameworking, he finds the exciting challenge is to morph a linear piece of borosilicate glass through a molten state to create an organic, color-rich expression of his nature-inspired vision. As a musician and filmmaker he has released six albums and his films include seven experimental films. Robert' music albums include: Pangaea: Old World, New Visions (1999), Ocean's Edge, Spirit's Journey (2004), Mouyami (2009), Love Is... (2012), Inhale! (2013), and Courage (2017).
